==Biography==
Juan Vélez was born in Córdoba, Spain and ordained a priest in 1627.〔 He served as dean of the church in the Archdiocese of Manila.〔Blair & Robertson (Philippine History: "The Philippine Islands ) volume 38, pp. 72-75〕 On January 26, 1660, Pope Alexander VII, appointed him Bishop of Cebu.〔(Ateneo de Manila University: "The Succession of Bishops of Cebu" by Domingo Abella ) vol. 8, no. 3 (1960): 535—543〕〔 Although he assumed the position as Bishop of Cebu, he died before his consecration as bishop.〔
